Chirs Vasquez is an award winning artist who has been recognized internationally for his passionate interpretations of the tango. The NY Argentine Consulate awarded Mr. Vasquez the honored prize of “Best Singer” at their International Tango Music Competition, and he was a finalist in the Medellín International Tango Festival Voice Competition.
Moshe Shulman is a composer, violin, accordion and bandoneon player as well as a founder and musical director of Buffalo Tango Orkestra.
Ivan Docenko is a staff accompanist at Buffalo State College in Buffalo,NY and a pianist for the Buffalo Tango Orkestra.
The work is a sequence of ten sound installations for electronics, voices, bodies, instruments, and found objects that builds a musical language in dialouge with a particular place's soundscape, ecosystem, topography, and built environment.
Electronics record and play back ambient sounds. Voices and instruments trigger acoustic resonances in the local envrionment. Instruments and found objects replicate ambient sounds in real time. Materials found on site become the basis for structured improvisations.
Unfolding from early afternoon to sundown, the work will be presented as an installation, wherein audience members are free to walk around the site and experience it from mulitple perspectives and drop in and out as they please.
All are invited to join in the performance's final section by producing sounds with materials found on site. This section will begin at 7:15pm. No prior musical experience is required.
This project is made possible thanks to grants funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature: administered by the Arts Services Initiative of Western New York.
