Artpark Reinstates Musical Theater Apprenticeship Program
High School students eligible to audition for summer 2011
(Lewiston, NY)- The highly successful Musical Theater Apprenticeship Program instituted last summer will be extended for Artpark’s August production of “Fame-The Musical” in 2011. The Apprenticeship Program provides an opportunity for up to eight high school music theater students of exceptional talent to participate in the company’s Broadway musical production. Artpark will present the high energy musical that appropriately focuses on the hopes and aspirations of a group of students attending New York City's High School of Performing Arts, in the Mainstage Theater August 12 through August 18 for eight performances.
Up to eight high school students, ages 16 and up, will be chosen for participation in the second year of the program. In addition to contributing as a cast member of “Fame-The Musical”, the young theater apprentices will have the opportunity to take advantage of master classes conducted by staff and senior cast members and to learn from performing alongside outstanding professional artists from across the U.S. Students participating in the program will receive a $325 stipend for the three week period July 27 through August 18.
“It was certainly a challenge, but I enjoyed every minute of it!” said Jordyn Holka of Nardin Academy about participating in last year’s Apprenticeship Program. “I feel that I grew so much over this past summer as a performer and as a person. I learned a great deal just from being in an atmosphere filled with so much talent and have gained so much confidence and humility as a result. All of the actors welcomed the apprentices into their world so readily and made us feel like we truly belonged.”
Auditions for the Musical Theater Apprenticeship Program will be held on February 19 from 2pm-5pm. The location of the auditions is to be determined. Those who apply will be notified of the confirmed location. Please prepare 32 bars of two songs and be prepared to dance/move. An accompanist will be provided at all auditions. Candidates should bring sheet music, application and photo.
