Artpark Announces "Edges II" Sculpture Competition!

Up to Seven Works to be Selected for Summer-long Display!

(Lewiston, NY)  Artpark is immediately placing a national call for entries for its 2nd outdoor sculpture competition, entitled "Edges II."  Up to seven works will be selected for a summer-long exhibition (May 30-September 17) on the grounds of Artpark, a 150-acre New York State Park located in Historic Lewiston.  Deadline for postmarked and/or electronic submission of entries - along with a $25 non-refundable fee per artist - is March 31, 2011.  Awards will consist of a $1,500 grand prize, a $1,000 2nd place prize and a $500 3rd place prize. Winners will be announced in June of 2011. The works, which may be up to 25-feet in height, will be viewable - at no cost - to all park visitors.

"When we announced the first Edges Competition in 2008, we fully expected it to be an annual event and a significant step toward restoring the visual arts to a prominent place in Artpark's programming," said Artpark President George Osborne. "Major cuts in our State funding in 2009 and 2010 forced us to postpone Edges II, but we are extremely pleased that the competition will be held in 2011.  The quality of the submissions in 2008 was outstanding and we are looking forward to even more and better projects for the 2011 version of Edges."

Judging the competition will be a selection committee of local artists and Artpark's visual arts staff.   Works will be selected by this committee and approved by Artpark's park manager.  Once works are installed on-site, the committee will select the prize winners.

Each artist selected for the exhibition will receive a $500 honorarium to cover transportation, installation, de-installation of the sculpture, and any other incidental expenses.  Any costs over $500 are the responsibility of the artist.  While up to seven works will be selected for display, the committee reserves the right to request more than one work from a single artist.

Artists are permitted to sell their work(s) - with Artpark retaining a 10% commission - during the project period.  However, the work(s) must remain on site for the duration of the exhibition.

For detailed submission guidelines, please go online to www.artpark.net or call (716) 754-4375 to request an informational brochure.
