Big Bang by Plasticiens Volants - William Close and the Earth Harp Collective

Artpark Amphitheater

Two stunning outdoor spectacles come together for one unforgettable 2017 Artpark Season finale:

William Close & The Earth Harp Collective and the U.S. premiere of BIG BANG by the French performance group Plasticiens Volants.

As seen at Coachella, Burning Man and on NBC's America's Got Talent, the world renowned installation artist, musician William Close will perform with his Earth Harp Collective on the newly extended Earth Harp, now featuring 24-36 strings sailing above the audience.

Who are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going? These are the questions posed by BIG BANG, providing only one answer: We are not sure of anything! The soaring story of BIG BANG combines huge floating inflatable creatures with projected images, music, and pyrotechnics to tell an unforgettable, dreamlike story.

William Close and The Earth Harp Collective

Exploring the intersection of architecture and music, you will literally sit inside the belly of the harp as it is played. With strings that can be 1,000 feet long, the body sits onstage with strings that shoot out over your heads to the back of the venue.

The concert will feature a mix of new compositions and well loved classics. An ensemble of musicians performing on William Close’s self-invented sculptural instruments including Drum Sculptures, Aquatar and wearable drum jacket creates the ultimate multi-dimensional concert experience.

BIG BANG BY Plasticiens Volants

At 8:30pm Artpark will present BIG BANG, the U.S. premiere of Plasticiens Volants, a jaw-dropping spectacle by a French street theatre company that has captivated audiences worldwide for forty years.

The aerial performance translates the scientific theory of the creation of the universe into a poetical tale.

“I believe the common ground between the scientists and the artists is in Imagination. While using different tools, both are bound by the common goal: to know and understand the world.” Marc Bureau, the author of Big Bang.

Plasticiens Volants have awed audiences from over five continents; at the Olympic Games in Sochi and Rio, and festivals from Canada to Australia—yet they have never performed in the U.S.

Artpark’s scenic location will provide a dramatic backdrop for the fantastic inflatables, and an exclusive opportunity for spectators of all ages to experience this unique performance never before seen in the U.S.

This is an hour-long performance, where standing and walking under the inflatables is encouraged and pictures are permitted.
