The Flaming Lips, known for their innovative music and brilliantly bizarre live performances broke onto the scene in the mid-90's and have become one of the most respected bands of the 2000's.

The Flaming Lips were formed in Oklahoma in the 80's (The band's single "Do You Realize" serves as the official rock song of Oklahoma). Named one of the "50 Bands to See Before You Die," by Q Magazine, the Flaming Lips have been acclaimed for their live shows featuring costumes, complex lighting configurations, confetti, balloons, puppets, giant hands, and frontman Wayne Coyne's signature man-sized plastic bubble, in which he navigates above the audience.

One of their early albums, In a Priest Driven Ambulance, was recorded with their friend, producer David Fridmann for $5 an hour in a studio on the SUNY Fredonia Campus in New York. After touring the nation in a Ryder truck, the Flaming Lips found themselves on the Top 40 charts with the hit, "She Don't Use Jelly." The band maintained critical success and a cult following with albums such as 1999's The Soft Bulletin and 2002's Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.
