Ceramics/Sculpture: This 3-D workshop is intended to be a jump start for students seeking to enroll in the Advanced Placement 3-D Design Portfolio. Taught by ceramics artist, Brett Coppins, the workshop will include instruction on the potter's wheel and hand-building with clay as well as nontraditional firing techniques. Other materials such as wire and found objects will be covered throughout the course of the week. A basic knowledge and understanding of clay is recommended but not required of students.
Drawing and Painting: This workshop is intended for High School students intending to take Advanced Placement Drawing and Painting at their respective High Schools. The works created will supplement those portfolios. During this workshop we will take advantage of the beautiful surroundings at Artpark by drawing and painting landscapes in numerous styles and media. We will also work in the studios, creating still life paintings and drawings. Everything will be geared toward making the student's portfolio stronger for AP grading and college admissions.
Mini-mural Art boxes:
Artists will explore the art of street, graffiti and mural Artists while creating their own characters. These characters will move around masonite boxes to create stand alone street art sculpture.
Print-Making: Artists will have the option to make linocut or collograph prints to create frame-able works of fine art.
Casting in Metal: After studying Salvatore Scarpetti. Artists will use his graphic designs as an influence, to carve Bas relief sculptures. They will be using sand molds and casting them in zinc. This two day project culminates in a zinc pour.
Fused Glass
Bruce Verbeck, a Western New York glass artist who has been working with the medium of glass for over 20 years, will cover the technique of melting (fusing) glass in a kiln. This workshop will discuss types of glass, glass cutting, tools, design fundamentals, heating temperatures, coefficients, and the use of recycled glass, while young Artists design and create one of a kind works in glass.
Portfolio
This workshop will teach the young artists how to photograph their work, create a slide list and put together a fine art portfolio for college admission. Other Projects will be added to complete the Artists portfolio these may include fused glass windows, altered object art, space paintings, shadow painting etc.
Camp takes place Monday-Friday from 9am - 4pm. Enrollment fee for the week is $250. Camp enrollments are limited as one-on-one instruction is emphasized, advanced art camp is suitable for children ages 15-17.
