Lynne Kurdziel-Formato is an Asst. Professor in the Department of Performing Arts at Elon University in North Carolina. As well as being an educator, Lynne is a professional director and choreographer, a member of Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, with over 300 productions to her credit (almost two dozen at Artpark including last years Disney's Beauty & the Beast, Aida, Oklahoma!, Grease, Swing! and Anything Goes). Other choreography: Evita, Ain't Misbehavin' and West Side Story for Tennessee Repertory Theatre, for which she won the Tennie Award; A Chorus Line, The Full Monty and My Fair Lady for Arkansas Repertory Theatre, where she heads back in ‘09 to direct & choreograph Tommy; South Pacific (Heritage Repertory Theatre in Virginia); and is the choreographer for Christmas In the Smokies at Dollywood Theme Park. She has taught Master classes in Theatre Dance for many nationally prominent organizations: Dance Masters of America, the DMA National Convention, Gus Giordano's World Jazz Dance Congress and the Southeast Theatre Conference. She is a 16-time nominee and six-time recipient of Buffalo's Artvoice Artie Award in direction and choreography, received their Career Achievement Award in 2004, the Katharine Cornell Award for contributions by a Visiting Artist in 2006, was the recipient of Elon College's Excellence in Scholarship Award in 2007, was named the 1996 "Individual Artist of the Year" by the Buffalo and Erie County Council on the Arts, received the 2005 Milton Plesur Award for Excellence in Teaching from the University at Buffalo, and, this year was inducted into the St. Joseph's Collegiate Fine Arts Wall of Honor. At Elon, she choreographed The Phantom of the Opera, directed & choreographed Cabaret, directed the New Musical Project developing a yet untitled piece by Drama Desk nominee Chris Miller, and choreographed an enormous Spring Convocation honoring the legendary Hal Prince. Lynne is also an accomplished performer and a member of the Actor's Equity Assn. Her last on-stage credit was at Universal Studios Florida where she was part of the 1990 opening team of actors. |
